Wired?

May I ask you a question? It’s nice to think that God is talking to us, his Spirit to ours, in a relationship connection day-in and day-out, isn’t it? But, is that how it works? We wake up in the morning and he’s talking to us and remains so throughout the day?

My friend, life's a story, welcome to This Passing Day. I'm Mark Brunner.

I have a Idiot’s Guide to Wiring on my workbench shelf. I can’t count the times I’ve been sure everything was correctly connected (neutral to neutral, hot to hot and ground to ground) only to find out that I had missed something or not correctly secured something in a wiring repair job. I have particular problems with circuits and lights. There’s this little tab on an outlet that needs to be cut depending on how the circuit is wired. That one trips me up almost every time. Because electricity only works in a circuit, it’s imperative that what goes into a circuit comes out again at the other end. The problem is trying to remember all of this when you only replace an odd outlet every year or so, or wire up a ceiling fan at rare moments in your life. Without the proper connections there’s no power, no light. Wires might be connected, but the electricity is going nowhere unless they are connected correctly.

A careful approach to wiring will only pay off when you understand circuitry. When circuits are open, there’s no power and the work is wasted. You know, it’s no different when it comes to the connection between the Spirit of God and our spirit. It must be a circuit or the connection is just not made.

Oswald Chambers writes. “The Spirit of God witnesses to the redemption of our Lord, and to nothing else. He cannot witness to our reason. We are inclined to mistake the simplicity that comes from our natural commonsense decisions for the witness of the Spirit, but the Spirit witnesses only to His own nature, and to the work of redemption, never to our reason. If we are trying to make Him witness to our reason, it is no wonder that we are in darkness and uncertainty. Throw it all overboard, trust in Him, and He will give you the witness of the Spirit.” (My Utmost for His Highest, October 22.)

The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 8:16-17a: “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ . . .” It’s nice to think that God is talking to us, his Spirit to ours, in a connected relationship, isn’t it? But, is that how it works? We wake up in the morning and he’s talking to us and remains so throughout the day? Not really. The Spirit of God pours in and through us only when there is a complete circuit between his holiness and the holiness of Christ within us. That means we need to be wired correctly on our end to complete that circuit and enable the connection. The Spirit will never connect to our reason, only to our spirit; a spirit founded in the redemptive promises of Jesus Christ our Lord wherein we find the will to abide in the goodness of Christ. Our holiness in Christ connected to God’s throne; anything less is an open circuit.

We pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding us in your Word that Christ has redeemed us from the penalty of sin in our life. We have been purchased and our spirit is connected with yours for eternity. Forgive us Lord when we try to connect our reason to the Word, thinking that it will connect us to your Spirit, a Spirit that only connects to Christ. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.

If you have a special prayer request, please send your request to "This Passing Day!"  <markcbrunner@thispassingday.com>  God bless   you for Jesus sake.
