Rugged reality?

My friend, may I ask you a question? Our lives are often like a screen clogged with dirt. When we clutter our lives with small acts of disobedience, doe our view of God can become blocked?

My friend, life's a story, welcome to This Passing Day. I'm Mark Brunner.

Climbing into the rafters of the garage is always a dirty job. I move a lot of things up there as the months and years go by, and often forget that they are up there. Over time they collect layers of dust and dirt. I had a chance recently to climb up into the rafters looking for a particular piece of lumber I needed. As I rooted about in the the semi-darkness my foot aiming to stand on something solid, kicked an old door screen that had been in the loft for many years. Down it plunged to the floor below, sending up a billow of dust as it cracked into the concrete. I finished my searching and climbed back down to retrieve the screen and replace it back to its spot above me. As I hefted it up I noticed that the fall had knocked out patches of dirt that had clogged the screen. Holding it up closely to my eyes as I climbed back up the ladder I began advancing each step by peering through just the cleared patches and avoiding the majority of the screen that remained dirty and clogged. It must have been an odd sight as I strained to find just enough clean space to navigate by.

As I was able to look though parts of the screen that weren’t clogged with dirt, a lot of small holes made for a fairly clear view of the garage loft above me. But, I had to look through the clean part of the screen and not the dirty part. The dirt in those parts of the screen that had not be shaken loose effectively shut out my view of the ladder steps. Our lives are often like that when you think about it. Cluttered by small acts of disobedience, our view of God can become blurred, even blocked when those acts of little sin plug up our view of our Heavenly Father reaching out to help us.

Oswald Chambers writes. “My personal life may be crowded with small petty incidents, altogether unnoticeable and mean, but if I obey Jesus Christ in the haphazard circumstances, they become pinholes through which I see the face of God, and when I stand face to face with God I shall discover that through my obedience thousands were blessed. When once God’s Redemption comes to the point of obedience in a human soul, it always creates. If I obey Jesus Christ, the Redemption of God will rush through me to other lives, because behind the deed of obedience is the Reality of Almighty God..” (My Utmost for His Highest, November 1)

The Apostle John writes: “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever (John 14:15-16)–” If you clean off a screen clogged with dirt and dust, you’ll be able to see through it pretty well, despite the fact that the holes in the screen appear small. That’s the nature of screen. Hold it closely to your eyes and the screen disappears for the holes. Clog your life up with small and disobedient sins and it isn’t long before you won’t be seeing God clearly. Keep those little sins out of your life, the sins of greed, covetousness, dishonesty and all the other dusty deeds of borderline Christianity. Keeping God’s commands begins with these. When we see God clearly, the distraction from sin will be most acutely lived.

We pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us your law to guide us and remind us of our imperfection. Forgive us Lord when we allow the small little sins of life to build up, effectively blocking our view of your presence in our lives. May we keep our lives swept clean of these small sins so that our view of you will always remain vivid and sharp. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.

If you have a special prayer request, please send your request to "This Passing Day!" <> God bless you for Jesus sake.
