My friend, may I ask you a question? Do you feel that your life is simple, gentle and effective? Are you aware of others around you that may be in need of your simple, gentle touch? When is the last time that you reached out to touch anyone with your gentle presence?
My friend, life’s a story, welcome to This Passing Day. I’m Mark Brunner.
“Reach out, reach out and touch someone!” That old AT&T advertising slogan was around for a long time. Advertising slogan last when advertising slogans are effective. This one lasted for nearly 20 years. Why? It inspired people to be what they really wanted to be, deep-down–touching each other in a world so often emptied of touch. It was a gentle message that made people realize that something as simple as a phone call had great significance. Just picking up the phone and saying “Hi!” could do more good for others than we think. It was simple, gentle and effective.
How about your life? Do you feel that it is simple, gentle and effective? Are you aware of others around you that may be in need of your simple, gentle touch? When is the last time that you reached out to touch anyone with your gentle presence?
Here’s a story: Once upon a time there was a little grape stem. This stem was so glad to be alive. She drank water and minerals from the soil and grew and grew. She was young and strong and could manage quite well–all by Herself. But then the wind was cruel, the rain was harsh, and winter arrived and the little grape stem suffered. She drooped, weak and suffering. But then the little grape stem heard a voice. It was another grape stem calling out to her. “Here, reach out and hang on to me.” But the stem hesitated. But then, ever so cautiously, she reached out towards the other grape stem. “Just wind your tendrils about me and I will help you lift your head.” The little stem trusted and suddenly she could stand straight again. The little grape stem was clinging to many other stems. And although the stems were swayed by the wind and frozen by the snow, they stood strongly united. In their united strength they could smile and grow. (Author unknown.)
Be encouraged and know that you are never alone in this world. There is always someone around that cares for your wellbeing and wants to help lift you up when you are feeling low. Never allow the trials of life to make you want to give up, but rather look towards the positive influences around you and grasp to their stems to be lifted up and sustained (John 13:34-35). Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds. Do for others what you would like them to do for you. Reach out, reach out and touch someone close to you today. Just say “Hi!” It worked for AT&T for over twenty year. Where God is concerned, it will work for an eternity.
We pray. Heavenly Father, help us not to look forward to what may happen tomorrow; as you are the same everlasting Father who cares for us today and will take care of us tomorrow and every day. Shield us from suffering, or give us your unfailing strength to bear it. Help us to be at peace and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations, and say continually: “The Lord is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him and I am helped. He is not only with me but in me, and I in hm.” In Jesus name we pray. Amen! (https://www.praywithme.com/inspirational-prayers.html–adapted)
Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
