My friend, may I ask you a question? Do you and need to continue to work harder to bring God’s Word to all who will hear it? Does that mean being more patient in the knowledge that God works justice through the good and the bad? By doing so, will we behold the God whose justice can never be thwarted?

Life’s a story, welcome to This Passing Day. I'm Mark Brunner.

It seems that everywhere you turn there is more bad news for the godly. In many ways it seems that those who confess the pure Word of God are hemmed in on all sides. It used to be that at least we could find some comfort in times of trouble, some refuge, in the family or in our homes. But now even that precious refuge is being assaulted as the very institution of marriage is being challenged. The list of losses grows greater and greater every day. Abortion is still with us and euthanasia has reared its ugly head. Can things get much worse? Where is God when we need Him?

Here’s a story: In the frigid waters around Greenland are countless icebergs, some little and some gigantic. If you'd observe them carefully, you’d notice that sometimes the small ice floes move in one direction while their massive counterparts flow in another. The explanation is simple. Surface winds drive the little ones, whereas the huge masses of ice are carried along by deep ocean currents. When we face the trials and tragedies of this life, it’s helpful to see our lives as being subject to two forces--surface winds and ocean currents. The winds represent the changeable, the unpredictable, and distressing. But operating simultaneously with these is another force that’s even more powerful. It is the sure movement of God’s wise and sovereign purposes, the deep flow of His unchanging love.

It often seems like the good guys are losing and the bad guys are winning. But that is a perception based only on what we can see and not what we might know. It’s the surface winds that we are most sensitive to; the winds of hatred spread by the likes of Islamic terrorists. It’s the breath of violence manifested in the selfishness that fuel the abortion industry. Surrounded by these endless flows of persecution and trouble, we miss the unobserved. The currents of God’s love are flowing, silently and relentlessly. You and I must continue to work hard to bring His just Word to all who will hear it, being patient in the knowledge that God works justice through the good and the bad. Be still and behold the God whose justice can never be thwarted.

We pray. Heavenly Father, we need You so badly. It seems like the only time we’re desperately crying out to You is at the lowest times in life. And we’er sorry for that. We know You want us to learn to depend on You like an infant with its mother. But oh, dear God, it’s so hard. We always think we can do it on our own. Please help us and make us what You want us to be—make us the kind of friend, and neighbor You want us to be. Please give us the desire in our hearts to pray more and read Your Word more. Please fill us with Your Spirit and really change our hearts. Make us new inside. We know You love us more than we could ever imagine. We ask this in Jesus name. Amen.

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.

If you have a special prayer request, please send your request to ”This Passing Day!”
