Concerns?

My friend, may I ask you a question? When you make choices each day of your life to find the joy that God has put there, life can become a fantastic ride of love and joy that takes you a little further along the road to Heaven every day. Is it possible that the longer you ride in this life, the less steep the hills will become.

Life’s a story, welcome to This Passing Day. I'm Mark Brunner.

When I was a kid we didn’t go on vacation very often. I’ve often felt that part of the reason, at least, was that there were six kids and a dog in the family; combine that with two adults, cargo, and grandma, there really wasn’t a whole lot of room in that old 1961 Buick, compact wagon. It was noisy, close-quarters and, frankly, not that comfortable a ride. My dad made the best of it, however. If one of us six siblings decided to complain about someone’s elbow or an obstructed view out of a rear seat window, his response was always the same. “Be quiet and enjoy the ride!” In a way, although I didn’t see it at the time, it was probably a good philosophy. We had the choice to complain or make the best of it.

Life’s joys, like that vacation ride, are our’s to choose or reject. So, if we’re along for the ride, why not choose joy?

Here’s a story from Joe Mazzella: “When I was a boy I used to love to go bike riding on my old, banana-set, one-speed, bike. The roads around my home had a lot of steep hills that were tough to get up. Often I would have to climb off and push my bike up them. The downhill rides, however, made it all worthwhile. I felt like I was flying, and I barely had to pedal at all. It was pure fun, pure delight, pure joy, and pure happiness. I laughed all the way with the wind in my face, my heart in my throat, and my soul in Heaven. Choosing love, joy, and oneness with God each day often reminds me of those childhood bike rides. It can take a bit of work to get going at first. You can even feel like you are pushing your bike up a steep hill full of problems, work, and worldly concerns. Once you get going, however, you find that the ride becomes easier and easier. You find yourself realizing that God is love, that life is joy, and that we are all God’s children.” (Joe Mazzella joecool@wirefire.com)

When you make choices each day of your life to find the joy that God has put there, life can become a fantastic ride of love and joy that takes you a little further along the road to Heaven every day. And, the longer you ride, the less steep the hills will become. The longer you ride the faster and smoother you will go. The longer you ride the more you will feel God pedaling right along beside you and smiling all the way. So, enjoy the ride. It’s all you’ve got, so wear a smile.

We pray. Dear Father, most every day of our lives there are moments when it seems that we are pedaling uphill. These are times Lord when we are putting our everything into it and are getting there oh so slow, or at times not there at all. We become discouraged because it seems that the more we do the less we gain. Forgive us Lord when we stop and go back the other way because we just don’t have the faith to believe that on the other side of the hill life usually gets so much better. Remind us that the ride down the hill, after the struggle, is often a blessing and it is something we just shouldn’t miss. You are always waiting for us at the top, ready to give us the delight, joy and happiness that is ours by grace if only we don’t give up. In Jesus Name! Amen.

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
