My friend, may I ask you a question? Do all we just need to do is believe in the job that Jesus has done. In God’s eyes what had been dirty lives filled with sin and disobedience, are they now lives with a fresh new coat of clean paint that covers all our guilt?
My friend, life’s a story, welcome to This Passing Day. I’m Mark Brunner.
There is nothing so satisfying as to think you have a great deal of work ahead and someone else has already done it for you. I experienced this years ago as I had a big job ahead of me; one I wasn’t looking forward to doing. The walls in my office needed painting badly. The nicks and scratches were everywhere and the walls looked dowdy and dirty. I knew that it would only be a matter of time before I needed to get out the paint cans and roller again. There was a debt owed to the walls and the bill had come due. That’s when my coworkers went into high gear. They bought the paint, found the help and did the work. On Friday I left an office in need of a facelift. When I unlocked Monday morning everything had been done. I didn’t even need to lift a finger.
So it is with your life and mine. We’re dirty and scratched and need to be cleaned up. But, who will do the work?
Here’s a story: A poor soldier in Russia was sitting one day in his barracks in deep despair, for he owed a great deal of money, and he didn’t where to get it. He got a piece of paper, and made on it a list of all his debts, and underneath wrote: “Who shall pay these debts?” He then fell asleep, and while he slept the Emperor of Russia passed by on an inspection, and taking up the paper read the question. Having read it, he took up a pen and signed his name, “Nicholas,” at the bot- tom. When the soldier woke up, he could not believe it. He thought it was too good to be true, but in the morning the money was delivered. The debts were paid, and the soldier was free, both from the debts and from his weight of concern over them. (Adapted from Moody)
My office got painted not because of my skill or wisdom. I had nothing to do with it. Someone else did the work for me and all they were asking is that I believed in the job that they did. It’s the same with us and our sinful lives. Christ has paid the debt of our sins, and He will free all who come to Him from the awful burden of sin. All we need to do is believe in the job that he has done. In God’s eyes what had been dirty lives filled with sin and disobedience are now lives with a fresh new coat of clean paint that covers all our guilt. It may be too good to be true but we have God’s word on it.
We pray. We owe You a great debt. Each day we add to that debt with additional sin and disobedience. Each day the burden of that debt becomes heavier, more difficult to carry. Thank You Lord for sending a Savior, Jesus Christ, who has inspected our lives as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and quietly placed his name at the bottom of our list of transgressions. Our debt is paid and the burden has been relieved for eternity. Forgive us Father when we try to carry that debt on our own, knowing full well that the weight of our sins can never be carried, let alone lifted, by us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own" (Matt 6:34)
May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
