There’s an old expression that says, “If you believe hard enough, even the impossible can be tamed.” I don’t know who said it; but I know for a fact it’s true. A number of years ago my wife and I found ourselves in a financial situation that required just the right combination of events and circumstances to allow us to make it through. We knew what these were and it seemed daunting, perhaps impossible. But over time, the seemingly impossible was tamed and we made it through. Things happened at unexpected times and sometimes so subtlety that we really weren’t aware of the whole picture until everything had happened and we could look back and see the hand of God in it all. Sometimes God is just like that.
Here’s a story from Chris Lewis: “Recently we learned of the tragic story of a young man who had unexpectedly died. He turned out to be the brother of our next-door neighbor. Of course, we had offered our sympathy and support; however, time had passed since news of the loss, and we had not seen our neighbor in quite some time. Last night, I saw her entering her house, and I began to think how difficult the loss must be now that all of the cards and words of encouragement have slowed or ceases. I felt a strong need to make contact her. So, on a whim, I said a prayer. “God, I am sorry I have not fully offered and shown the compassion and support to my neighbor which you offer and show to me each and every day.” The next day, I went to check our mailbox. In the mailbox was a small package, but it was not addressed to us. The name and address was that of my neighbor. My ticket to making a new contact with my neighbor had been hand- delivered by my divine Postman.” (Contributed by Chris Lewis clewis@northstate.net)
Through the eyes of faith, this was another perfect “prayer delivery” from God, our divine Postman. He answers prayer often in ways that we just can’t anticipate. The Bible tells us that “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us–whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of him” (1 John 5:14-15). God IS like that! He often delivers little miracles in ways we don’t expect but in ways we hope for. And the fun part is that He gives us the hindsight to enjoy them.
We pray. Heavenly Father. When we have the eyes of faith, our prayers are always perfect because our “prayer delivery” is from You, our divine Postman. You answers prayer often in ways that we just can’t anticipate. As the Bible tells us “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us–whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of him” (1 John 5:14-15). You are like that! Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello.
