Sticks and stones? Sticks and stones can hurt; but do they really harm? No one appreciates being ridiculed. In fact if a list of abuse were compiled and that abuse rated from bad to worst, verbal abuse might rank right up on top of the list, even ahead of physical pain. When was the last time you were abused, falsely criticized or, perhaps, even cursed?
Think about it. Hopefully, you can answer recently. Why? If we follow Christ the world WILL hate us. The world will heap abuse on us because we remind the ungodly of everything they hate: grace, mercy, love and forgiveness.
God’s Word tells us: Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. (1 Peter 3: 13).
The key to handling verbal abuse, even hurtful abuse, is to deflect it without absorbing it. Words can’t pierce your heart when it’s at peace in Christ. Words may hurt, but for a Christian they can never harm.
“I pray today in Jesus name that the key to handling verbal abuse, even hurtful, is to deflect it without absorbing it. Words can’t pierce your heart when it’s at peace in Christ. Sticks and stones..” Amen!
