My friend, may I ask you a question? Since it is impossible for us to see into the future and know all the possibilities of what we are asking for, how good and gracious is our God that He takes this into account where our well-being is concerned?

Did you ever stop to think how horrible life would be if everything that we prayed for God automatically gave to us? I remember praying a number of years ago that God would bless a particular job application and resume that I had spent a whole lot of time working on. His answer was swift and undeniably certain. No job, not even an interview was granted. I was certain that this would be the job, the perfect dream job I had been hoping for. Instead, it really seemed that God had let me down. Only months later I happened across an article in the business section of the newspaper announcing the sale of my dream company to a foreign competitor. Not only was the company sold, but it was also in the process of being dismantled. My dream job would have become more of a nightmare than a dream had God said “yes.”
Since it is impossible for us to see into the future and know all the possibilities of what we are asking for, how good and gracious is our God that He takes this into account where our well-being is concerned.
Here’s a story: An only survivor of a wreck who was thrown onto an uninhabited island. After time he managed to build himself a hut, in which he placed the little that he had saved from the ship. He prayed to God for deliverance and anxiously scanned the horizon each day to hail any passing ship. One day on returning from a hunt for food, he was horrified to find his hut in flames. All he had was going up in smoke! To the man’s limited vision it was the worst that could have happened. To God’s infinite wisdom it was the best, for which he had prayed. The next day a ship arrived. “We saw your smoke signal,” the captain said. -- Selected. (William Moses Tidwell, “Pointed Illustrations.”)
When we understand that God’s answers to our prayers in time of need are based on His perspective and not on our own, it becomes a whole lot easier trusting in God to do the right thing. Because we are imperfect and He is perfect, our perspectives are often not the same. He knows the whole story where often we can only see the opening lines to the first chapter. In reality, sometimes when our dreams go up in smoke, they may only be a signal of good things to come.
We pray. Heavenly Father. When we understand that Your answers to our prayers in time of need are based on a Holy and Divine perspective and not on our own, it becomes a whole lot easier trusting in You to do the right thing for us, even when we sinfully think we know what is better. Forgive us Lord. Because we are imperfect and You are perfect, our perspective is often not the same as Yours, but You know the whole story where often we can only see the opening lines to the first chapter. In reality, sometimes when our dreams go up in smoke, they may only be a signal of good things to come–the things that only Your divine will can see or know. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
