My friend, may I ask you a question? With unity you can face the worst trials of life and be victorious, made strong beyond imagination! However just as the sand needs to be mixed with cast concrete to form cinder blocks, doesn’t unity needs to also be mixed with the Holy Spirit?

I love to season the food I eat. Whereas my wife Holly likes things fairly bland, you might say that I like my food thoroughly non-bland. There are some seasonings, however, that I've never had much use or taste for. One is mint. I've just never been very found of the somewhat medicinal, almost stinging taste of mint. Even though I enjoy making soups and stir-fries, mint is simply something I wouldn't consider adding to anything I was preparing. The other night, however, I was having a bowl of homemade chicken soup and I decided to rummage through Holly's seasonings for something different to add some zest to the soup. I found a jar of Curt's Seasoning. It looked a bit like seasoned salt so I added it to my soup and dug in. It tasted pretty good and the zest of the Curt's gave the soup an edge I really liked. So I checked the label to see what ole' Curt put into his seasoning. One of the first ingredients on the list: Mint! While mint alone is some- thing I'm not crazy about, mixed with salt, and about a dozen other zesty herbs, it actually was pretty good.
Combining things can sometime really change the way something tastes or looks . . . or works! Here's a story: If you have the opportunity to examine a grain of sand, you will notice that every one looks different. Some are colored, others are not; some are tiny, others are larger, and together they are irresistible. One grain of sand however, if left alone, is at the mercy of shifting winds and tides. No stability and no steady home for it, ever! The wind may pick it up and move it miles or a fish might swallow it with a bit of food and leave it at the bottom of the ocean. Constancy will never be the norm of that grain of sand! No, it is destined to lead a life of excessive adventure and tribulation. When grains of sand are all together however, they are often used to resist the worst hurricanes of the season! And, better yet, mixed together with pebbles and cast concrete, they form one of the sturdiest building materials in the world, cinder blocks; cinder blocks able to withstand the wind and the rain with constancy. You see, unity pays off! With unity you can face the worst trials of life and be victorious, made strong beyond imagination! However just as the sand needs to be mixed with cast concrete to form cinder blocks, unity needs to also be mixed with the Holy Spirit. Only through Him can we find direction and purpose. Only through Him will we be made aware of the dangers that attempt to rob us of our rightful lives! Sometimes it's in the mix of things that makes all the difference. The spices in Curt's seasoning, on their own, weren't my cup of tea. Mixed together they were pretty good. Life without the Holy Spirit isn't much. With Him, however, it's just the right mixture of life and spirit. And, that tastes pretty good.
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own" (Matt 6:34)
We pray. Lord, strengthen our faith by Your Holy Spirit, so that we become more and more united with Christ our Head, since it is Your good pleasure to unite us to Him in both suffering and glory. Enable us to bear what is brought upon us by Your fatherly wisdom. We submit ourselves entirely to Your will. Unite us together as believers, strong in spirit, one in Christ, whose resurrection is the guarantee of our blessed resurrection.. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello.
